Metro Bank delivers financial education lesson to 1100 pupils at Hertfordshire Agricultural Society Food & Farming Day
Colleagues from the Metro Bank stores in Hemel Hempstead, St Albans, Enfield, Luton, and Borehamwood are joining forces at the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society Food & Farming Day to deliver part of its financial education programme – Money Zone – to 1,100 eleven year olds from 26 local schools[i]. The food and farming day will take place at the Hertfordshire County Showground on Tuesday 4th July.
Money Zone is a series of financial education lessons that Metro Bank offers to school children - either virtually or in store. Money Zone usually comprises of four sessions - budgeting, saving, banking and the last session which takes place in store gave the children a behind the scenes look at the Bank. However, given the time constraints, the pupils will enjoy an abridged lesson the day with an open invitation to take up the full course at their schools at a later date. To date, Metro Bank has delivered its Money Zone programme to over 250,000 children across the U.K.
Metro Bank was approached by the organisers to deliver its popular Money Zone sessions. Adult financial literacy remains at less than 70 per cent in the UK and Metro Bank is committed to encouraging children of all ages to learn more about the finances they will need to understand as they grow older and start earning money.
“As a community bank, we are keen to support to get kids excited about maths, money and finance in our interactive fun sessions – there is nothing dull about our lessons” explained Emma Sutton Metro Bank’s Head of Events. “This will be our biggest ever Money Zone delivery in one single day! This is a really exciting event for us and we are delighted to be chosen as the partner to support such a big education project. The best bit will be the question and answer session at the end – it always is; children ask the best most imaginative questions – my favourite yet was whether I was married to our company mascot Metro Man!”
