Bank colleagues undergo specialist training to understand more about dementia
Colleagues from Metro Bank’s Colchester store underwent specialist training this week delivered by Age Concern Colchester in order to educate and raise awareness around dementia.
“It was fantastic to get involved and extremely insightful to hear what we can do to help customers and the public with dementia and seeing some basic signs of how to identify this,” explains store manager, Oli Bailey. “As a community bank, we want to be as inclusive as possible. Having completed this specialist training, we are more ready and able to help and support customers if they are living with dementia as we have a better understanding about the effects and limitations it provides people with.“
Now that they have completed the training all colleagues have the opportunity to become a ‘Dementia Friend’ which is essentially a wide group of people from all various walks of life who build awareness around dementia and know how to identify someone with dementia and what help is available. Dementia Friends is a registered charity open to anyone who wants to help people with dementia in their community.
A Dementia Friend is somebody that learns about dementia so they can help their community. Too many people affected by dementia feel that society fails to understand the condition they live with. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want.
