Metro Bank Colleague Turns Womble for the Day to Keep Aylesbury Tidy
The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Assistant store manager, Nilany Vasantharasan from Metro Bank’s Aylesbury store took to the streets this week to collect litter to help keep Aylesbury tidy during Great British Spring Clean month.
Nilany joined fellow Wombles - the Berry Pickers - to help remove the waste that is damaging the Aylesbury environment by picking up litter.
Government statistics show that litter is a real issue across the country with the top five most common types of litter being smoking-related litter, confectionery packs, bottles and cans and fast food rubbish and its research clearly reports that litter attracts litter – with people being more inclined to drop rubbish if an area is littered.
“I can’t believe how much rubbish we collected – bags and bags of the stuff,” explained Metro Bank assistant store manager Nilany Vasantharasan. “Litter is such a hazard to animals, kids and the environment and something I hate seeing. I love that we can use our Day to Amaze to support a cause we are really passionate about.”
Metro Bank’s Aylesbury store can be found at 45 Market Square, Aylesbury, HP20 2SP. The store is currently open Monday – Saturday 08:30am - 6pm. Sunday: 11am - 5pm.
