Metro Bank is proud to celebrate the second year of its partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to encourage more girls to take up cricket across the UK. Empowering the next generation of young women also includes championing female entrepreneurs and business leaders. Research shows that by promoting girls’ participation in sport, they will grow in confidence and achieve more in life and careers.
To commemorate the partnership’s second anniversary, Metro Bank recently hosted an engaging event featuring leading voices from the world of sport and business. The discussion explored how playing sport can elevate the lives and careers of women and girls, underscoring the powerful link between sporting experiences and professional success.
Speaking at the event was:
- Katherine Sciver-Brunt, ex-England international cricketer and World Cup Winner, who shared insights on transitioning into new ventures post-retirement.
- Shaunagh Brown, retired England and Harlequins rugby player and member of the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund Expert Council, who spoke about the impact of sport on personal and career development.
- Matt Rogan, co-founder of leading sports data agency Two Circles, Non-Executive Director of the UK Sports Institute, and member of the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund Expert Council, who highlighted the importance of data-driven strategies in sport and business.
- Ruqsana Begum, professional boxer and business owner, who discussed her journey in the sporting and entrepreneurial world and how sport has empowered her to break barriers.
The event emphasized that sports not only brings health benefits, but also plays a crucial role in building essential skills like leadership, resilience, and teamwork – skills that are invaluable in the business world.
“Our partnership with the ECB dovetails neatly with our support for female entrepreneurs,” said Kerry Reynolds, Metro Bank’s Retail and Business Banking Director. “We are enthusiastic about nurturing the potential of girls in our communities and we believe that encouraging them to get involved in sport is a powerful way to develop life skills that will serve them well in any career they choose.”
Through its continued collaboration with the ECB, Metro Bank aims to create more opportunities for women and girls in sport and business, inspiring future leaders and ensuring that female-led enterprises have the tools, network, and platform they need to thrive.
