Metro Bank Colleague Steers Towards Stewardship at Ash Museum

The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Barbara Pitzeri a member of Metro Bank’s financial crime operations team recently volunteered at the Ash Museum.

The Ash Museum, a gem of historical preservation, stands as a beacon for those looking to delve into the rich heritage of the region. The museum’s exhibits, ranging from ancient artifacts to local lore, offer visitors a unique glimpse into the past. The museum also plays a pivotal role in educating the community, with initiatives like cemetery tours that shed light on the importance of memorial preservation.

Barbara served as a steward for the day, warmly welcoming visitors and sharing her knowledge, answering questions. But the day didn’t just stop at the museum doors. Barbara also joined a fascinating tour of the nearby historic Ash Cemetery. Here, she learned about the painstaking work that goes into cleaning and maintaining the war graves, ensuring that those who gave the ultimate sacrifice are honoured with the respect they deserve.

Reflecting on her experience, Barbara Pitzeri said, “It was an enriching day, both literally and figuratively. I’ve always been interested in history, and to have the chance to contribute to the Ash Museum’s mission was truly rewarding. The cemetery tour was especially poignant, it’s wonderful to see the care and attention given to such important sites.”
