Metro Bank, the revolutionary high street bank which earlier this month announced record third quarter growth, today announces it has created more than 1,000 career opportunities since its launch.
As many other high street retailers are closing their doors*, Metro Bank continues to grow. Over 2013, the bank has grown its store footprint by 60% and the number of jobs created has increased by over 100%. The bank’s growth is showing no signs of slowing down in 2014, with up to 12 stores planned in areas including Milton Keynes and Brighton, and a significant number of job opportunities anticipated.
As a growth retailer with a reputation as an excellent employer, Metro Bank is an extremely popular career choice for many people. Since April 2013, the bank has received more than 6,000 applications for 150 in-store roles. Colleagues also benefit from strong career progression opportunities, with nearly one in five of all colleagues taking on new roles or promotions throughout 2013. These figures highlight Metro Bank's growing reputation as an excellent employer, and the demand to work at the UK's most customer-centric and revolutionary retail bank.
Metro Bank is committed to creating a diverse workforce that represents the communities it serves, and giving opportunities to colleagues looking to build a career with the bank. As a community bank, more than 600 of its 1,000 colleagues are based within stores, to ensure local people and businesses receive exceptional service relevant to their local needs. Metro Bank is also committed to hiring 150 apprentices in the next 3 years, as part of the London Evening Standard’s Ladder for London scheme, and currently more than a third (37%) of all colleagues are under the age of 25. The bank has also been recognised by Mumsnet as being one of the most family friendly companies in the UK, winning a gold award for its innovative customer and colleague centric initiatives.
Craig Donaldson, Chief Executive, Metro Bank commented: “I am absolutely delighted to announce this milestone for job creation in the last three years. Importantly, these aren’t just jobs, they’re long term careers with real progression opportunities for people as we grow. Our people are the lifeblood of our business, and they live and breathe our culture every day. At Metro Bank we recruit colleagues for attitude just as much as we do for banking experience - so we look for colleagues who love interacting with people and are passionate about delivering outstanding customer service.
“In three years, we’ve gone from strength to strength as our record breaking third quarter results demonstrate. As we continue to grow, win customers and build stores, we need exceptional people to come aboard and grow with us.”
