Metro Bank Colleague Lends a Hand to Tockwith Players Pantomime Production
The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Metro Bank colleague Lee Green decided to take a starring role behind the scenes for his latest volunteering effort, spending his Day to Amaze with Tockwith Players – a local community entertainment group known for their plays, murder mysteries, and musical events. Though Lee has no aspirations for the stage, he jumped at the chance to help when he heard the group needed volunteers for their latest pantomime.
“It’s behind you!” is not what Lee heard while volunteering, but he did have his hands full moving scenery from storage, helping build the stage, and even painting the scenery. A self-described non-artist, Lee joked that “no Vincent van Gogh or Banksy fans will be drooling over my handiwork, but as I was reminded several times, it’s for a pantomime – anything goes!”
The day was a ‘panto-perfect’ mix of hard work and camaraderie, with volunteers from all walks of life coming together. Of course, no British volunteering day would be complete without copious cups of tea, and Lee certainly made the most of that tradition, saying, “I managed to drink plenty of tea too!”
Tockwith Players, a not-for-profit community group, praised the dedication of their volunteers and celebrated the success of the pantomime, with enthusiastic feedback from the audience who clearly loved the show. “We all had a brilliant day, and seeing the audience enjoying the performances made all the effort worthwhile,” says Metro Bank’s Lead Credit Risk Manager, Lee Green.
