A local female entrepreneur and her business – Food by Sophie – is being showcased by community bank Metro Bank as part of its partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Food by Sophie will feature in the new campaign designed to inspire women to achieve their potential in business, cricket and life. The campaign – which launches on September 16th - showcases how the female led Bristol business was centre stage at the Seat Unique Stadium during England Women’s series against New Zealand, thanks to Metro Bank.
Sophie’s daughters initially encouraged their mum to share her home cooked Jamaican food with a wider audience in Bristol, but Sophie was originally inspired by watching the key women in her life – grandmother, mum and aunt – cooking as she grew up in Kingston, Jamaica.
Recent research found that 55% of women say going it alone is a barrier to starting their own business. Metro Bank not only supports women in business through the Investing in Women programme, but also provides every entrepreneur with a local business manager to support them from start-up and as the company grows. As part of this campaign, Metro Bank has used its role as Champion of Women’s and Girls’ Cricket to demonstrate its support and through telling the story of Food by Sophie, aims to inspire other women to see their potential.
Metro Bank supported Sophie when she was just starting out, introducing her to local business manager, James at the Broadmead store who helped her with creating a business account and an overdraft facility to get her up and running.
Today, Sophie serves her food at serves her food on Wine Steet, in the centre of Bristol every Tuesday and Friday, but dreams of running her own store. “I don’t feel as if I am doing this on my own and with James’ help and support, I know I can achieve my goals and my ultimate dream - I can’t wait to have a little shop, I can see it clearly in my mind and I hope being featured in this campaign will bring me one step closer to realising my dream.”
The new campaign will include customer case study videos shared across Metro Bank and ECB channels to promote Food by Sophie.
James Strange, local business manager, Bristol Metro Bank says: “It’s vital for us to build relationships and connections within the community by really getting to know and understand our customers. We provide practical support for entrepreneurs via our networking events and connecting them with like-minded individuals in the community, whether that’s in similar industries or just someone that they can talk to and share information with. I am delighted that Food by Sophie has been chosen to feature in this campaign and more people in Bristol will be encouraged to support this delicious business.”
As part of the campaign, three England players, Kate Cross, Lauren Bell and Sarah Glenn visited Sophie’s food stall in the market and Sophie was then invited to the ground to see her business and brand up in lights. Sarah Glenn, England Cricketer said, ‘Our partnership with Metro Bank has created so many opportunities for young girls, both in sport and outside of sport, to excel in their careers.”
